John Casella completed his winemaking education in Oenology at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, in 1982. He then gained valuable experience in winemaking and winery management, with 12 years spent working for Riverina Estate Wines.
John has always been involved in family business and assisted in the day to day management of the winery from a very young age. In 1994 John returned full time to the family winery as Managing Director. At this time Casella Wines was continuing to focus on the production and sale of bulk and bottled wine, however John with his natural motivation was looking to further expand his parents vision and drive the growth of the family business. This expansion of Casella Wines continues today.
Joe Casella is the eldest of the three Casella brothers and, as Director of Casella Wines, oversees all areas of business, procurement and site growth. Joe is also involved with vineyard expansion and planning, winery acquisition and winery development. This includes site evaluation, the addition of new technology and machinery, and negotiations with suppliers.
Joe's experience was gained from his hands-on role in the winery process growing up. Being involved with all aspects of the winery production from its conception in 1965, he fulfilled duties from viticulture management to winemaking alongside his father Filippo, the company's founder.
Marcello Casella is the youngest of the Casella brothers. As Director of Casella Wines, his main area of expertise is in the vineyard and revolves around the growing and harvesting of quality grapes each year. Marcello is also involved in the winery machinery maintenance department, winery acquisition and winery development and innovation, which includes the addition of new technology and machinery.
Over the years Marcello has successfully managed the growing number of vineyards in the Casella Wines portfolio.
In his crucial role at Casella Wines, Alan manages the crushing, making and blending of over 12 million cases of wine per annum while maintaining the consistent taste of [yellow tail] year after year.
Alan has been working as Chief Winemaker at Casella Wines for over 10 years, with his winemaking team growing from two to 13 winemakers during this time. The crush capacity has also grown from 200 tones in 1996 to over 180,000 tones in 2008.
